How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated in Winters

“Winter is coming.” Well, that was a Game of Thrones reference but yes, it’s coming and so are our skin woes. This season isn’t only about wearing oversized hoodies and sweaters or sitting cozy by the fire place sipping on your teas and hot chocolates. To be honest, dry weather tends to take a toll on our skin as humidity levels drop drastically in winters. Chapped lips, scratch lines along your body and cracked heels…you know you’re in for the long haul and the worse is yet to come when there’s an onset of these symptoms. Well, The Talk has you covered with these skin care tips that will keep your skin hydrated throughout the season.

Cleanse:

Use a mild cleanser no matter what the season is but make it a must for winters as our skin is usually dry around this time. Chemically infused harsh cleansers strip your skin off its natural oils, I am sure you don’t want that. Go for the ones with hydrating properties.

Limit excessive exfoliation:

Dry skin leaves you with a flaky skin. While exfoliation is an essential step of a skin regimen, limit exfoliating in winters to once a week or as needed. Some exfoliators such as apricot or microbeads scrubs do the trick for some, they are damaging to others. Gentle exfoliators are in the game. Just pick the right one according to your skin type.

Don’t drag-dry, pat dry your skin:

Ever get a cringe when you accidently slide your nail on a board? THAT! That’s exactly the cringe your skin feels when you drag a towel or napkin to dry it. Avoid that. Instead, just pat dry your skin after you’ve washed it.

Moisturize:

The primary rule of every skin care regimen under the sun. Moisturize your body as soon as you leave shower, especially in winters for it keeps the natural moisture trapped in your body. Nourish your skin with that extra layer of moisturizer if you generally have a dry skin. However, use water-based creams and formulas if you have oily skin.

Nourish your skin with natural ingredients:

Your skin craves for hydrating and nourishing ingredients in winters. Use glycerin and rose oil infused products, and products that are enriched with aloe vera or coconut oils for they are key ingredients in nourishment.

Avoid long hot showers:

I know I know, everyone hates getting out of those hot showers in winters. But wasn’t your skin more important for you? Limit your shower time and take an occasional cooler shower.

Humidifiers:

Trust me when I say that I cannot live without a humidifier in my room. Make it your best buddy as that is your most prized winter investment to be honest. Switch it on in the room and feel a difference in your skin in a few days’ time. You’ll thank me later.

Keep a lip balm:

Relax! I wasn’t going to miss out on this winter staple. You don’t want to be seen biting off the dead skin off your lips in public. Keep a lip balm handy please.
