Mental health is an essential part of health that relates to one’s cognitive, behavioral and emotional well being. It is about how one feels, behaves and responds to various circumstances in their environment. Mental health is more than just the absence of a mental disorder as is perceived in our society and it certainly should not be considered a sign of weakness. Everyone reacts a certain way to the occurrences around them and we all break down and pull ourselves back up in life’s stride. With every passing day, it has become more than important to prioritize mental health. Here is how you can keep your mental health in check.
Talk it out:
There is no harm in sharing how you feel. Communicate and express your feelings with your close and trusted ones. Find someone who listens to you with a clear mind and no preconceived notions.
Seek professional help:
Do not stop yourself from asking for professional help. Period. As much as society attaches stigmas around mental health, go out in your vicinity and seek help from a mental health counsellor who can offer you sane advice.
Take a break:
Take a break from everything that you are doing if you feel unproductive. Remember, there is no harm in feeling laidback or lethargic about a task that is incomplete. It can wait. Take a break, collect yourself first.
Avoid toxicity:
Stay away from toxic people and environment. If it is not bringing you happiness or peace of mind, drop it. It is not worth sulking over. Avoid being around toxic people and an environment that breeds negativity. It will just add to your woes.
Avoid pressurizing yourself for the digital world:
As much as social media becomes our escape and keeps us engaged, it often leads to fostering unnecessary expectations in our minds. Do not let social media make you vulnerable. Do not let it pressurize you in becoming something that you are not. Stay comfortable in your skin.
