Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai tied the knot with Asser Malik in an intimate Nikkah ceremony in Birmingham, England on Tuesday. The 24-year-old Pakistani activist took to her social media accounts to share the news with her followers. She announced the news while asking for everyone’s prayers. “We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead,” wrote Malala.
Malala was dressed in a gorgeous tea pink shalwar kameez with intricate embroidery on it while the groom wore a classic black suit with a matching tea pink tie.
Malala’s husband Asser Malik is an Economics and Political Science graduate from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He has been associated with the sports industry and is currently the General Manager High Performance at Pakistan Cricket Board since 2020. Malik was earlier associated with Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans.
Congratulatory messages started pouring in as soon as the couple shared the happy news on social media. Politicians, writers and other celebrities from Pakistan and around the globe, sent their love and warm wishes to the newly weds on Twitter and Instagram. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wished the couple “a lifetime of happiness together”, while Aseefa Bhutto also wrote a heart warming message to Malala and Asser.
Turkish novelist Elif Shafak wrote “Wonderful news, sending big congratulations” on Twitter while famous Bollywood actor Divya Dutta also wished the two and sent regards to the newlyweds’ parents.
